Abstract

Before the issue of the new China Steel Industry Production Statistics Indices System, according to traditional standard, medium and heavy plate can be categorized into two types: one is super thick steel plate which is 50 mm or above in thickness, and the other is medium and heavy plate which is between 4mm and 50 mm in thickness, including medium-thick wide strip steel.
Since January 1st, 2004, China has carried out new statistics indices system in steel industry. According to the new system, medium and heavy plate includes four types of steel products called super thick steel plate, thick steel plate, medium plate and medium-thick wide steel strip. The standard for division is that: a product with a thickness of 50 mm or above is called super thick steel plate, one which is between 20mm or above to 50 mm is thick steel plate, one which is 3 mm or above but less than 20 mm in thickness is medium plate, and Medium-Thick Wide Steel Strip is product which has the same thickness with medium plate but has a width of 600 mm or above (delivered in sheet).

According to the new China Steel Industry Production Statistics Indices System, in 2007, the accumulative total output of medium plate, thick steel plate and Medium-Thick Wide Steel Strip was 111.07 million tons in China, with super thick steel plate counted, the output was 11.53899 million tons.
